Are we becoming less practiced in reflective self-regulation, critical thinking and cognitive autonomy? These skills may be exactly what is needed to navigate a future of AI integration, and yet, may also be the skills we are exercising less.

The current online environment isn't just distributing content to us and our children, it is quietly shaping attention, beliefs, emotional regulation, and our decision-making.

It is influencing how children and young people think, relate, connect and form judgements. These young people are the generation that will need to govern future advanced AI systems.

If cognitive outsourcing becomes normal, what happens to reflective capacity?

What does the future look like?

Will the future generation regulate AI, or accept it without deep scrutiny? There is widespread concern and uncertainty about what Artificial Intelligence will become, but are we teaching and protecting the very skills that may be needed to confront and govern it, or are they silently being eroded?
